Frequently Asked Questions

Q:           Do I need to have an Instructor Training Certificate to buy from CTS?

A: It is a requirement of all the specialty Less-lethal munitions manufacturers that a valid and current certificate of training to the instructor level must be supplied for the purchase of explosive materials. Explosive materials would include Stingballs, Flashbangs, and the like. Training certificates are not required for purchasing other less-lethal munitions. However, there have been cases where the dealer/distributor has asked for a training certificate for the purchase of standard less-lethal munitions. In my opinion, this was an in-house rule not an ATF or munitions manufacturers requirement. There have been cases of injuries from explosive devices and an effort is made to be certain these items are not sold to agencies that have not had adequate training on their proper usage.

Q:           Will all 40 mm munitions fire from any 40 mm launcher?

A:            In theory, yes. There may be rare cases where a 40mm munition manufactured by one company does not fit or function in the 40mm launcher of another company. This can occur because there are tolerances allowed in the manufacturing process of both the munitions and the barrels or chambers of the launchers. If this should occur, try another of the same round and you may find that it fits when the other ne did not. As stated earlier this is a rare occurrence but it is possible.

Q:           Does CTS offer training?

A:            Yes, Combined Systems has a training division, the CTS Training Institute. Information regarding training for the CTS Training Institute is available at the Combined Systems website – https://www.combinedsystems.com/training/

Q:           Is the CTS 4557 Foam Baton reloadable?

A:            Yes, the 4557 Foam Baton round can be reloaded for training, practice or qualification uses. I would dissuade anyone from using anything but factory rounds for actual mission usage.

40MM 4557 Reload Kit – 24 Shot Practice Only – 24 Cases, 8 Bands And 5 Noses
40MM 4557 Reload Kit – 72 Shot Practice Only – 72 Cases, 24 Bands And 15 Noses
40MM 4557 Reload Kit – 120 Shot Practice Only – 120 Cases, 40 Bands And 25 Noses
40MM 4557 Reload Kit – 250 Shot Practice Only – 250 Inserts, 25 Cases, 30 Bands And 30 Noses – Reloading Press Needed (Item #4557RP)

The 24, 72 and 120 shot reload kits have cases with the insert already installed. The insert contains the primer and the high/low charge used to propel the projectile downrange. Those cases may be fired once. The bands and noses may be reused repeatedly. The 250 shot reload kit has 250 inserts, and 25 cases. The 25 cases are to be reloaded with the inserts; therefore, the reloading press is required for the 250 shot reload kit. The reload press facilitates removal of the spent insert and installation of a new insert. As with the other reload kits the bands and noses can be reused repeatedly.
